Nancy Lawrence Receives Prestigious County Award

00:00 AM - May 24, 2021

Nancy Lawrence, a Manager in Business Services for the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE), received the coveted Excellence in Education Award during EDCOE’s recent Team Member Recognition Event on Zoom. After receiving the award, Nancy expressed, “I am so honored and humbled to receive the Excellence in Education award. It is easy to strive towards excellence here at EDCOE because I am surrounded by employees and leaders who exhibit excellence while performing their everyday duties. All I have to do is observe, learn and apply the same excellence to my area of expertise. Working at EDCOE for the past twenty-seven plus years has not been “just a job" for me - it has been a journey of personal and professional growth and an opportunity to interact with special people of the same mindset – those people who truly care about our mission to serve the children and parents in El Dorado County and statewide through our Rite of Passage and SELPA programs.”

Dr. Ed Manansala, El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools, awarded the honor to Nancy and commented, “Nancy continues to go above and beyond the call of duty. She is reliable and resilient. Thank you for your service.”

In 1993, Nancy was hired as an EDCOE Account Clerk and over the years promoted into the positions of Payroll Technician, Payroll Coordinator, Business Services Asst. and currently serves as a Manager in Business Services. In her role, she oversees three payroll technicians and ensures the team successfully distributes team members’ pay in a seamless fashion. A lot of time and detail is required while processing payroll, and she fosters a collaborative team effort. She also invests time and thoughtful care in leading and training her team members. As a result, the team demonstrates an elevated level of camaraderie.

During the onset of the pandemic and many team members transitioning to remote work, she led the team while they transitioned paper timesheets to an electronic, automated means of processing. She had to demonstrate a level of flexibility and innovation that was critical. She always remains positive, thoughtful, and proactive in her daily operations. Business team leaders rely on her for knowledge and expertise for everything payroll related including details regarding CalPERS and CalSTRS.

Recently, Wendy Frederickson, Associate Superintendent and Nancy’s supervisor, noted, “Nancy is the utmost professional. She is such a positive role model for her team in payroll and beyond. Her attention to detail and thoughtful approach to any situation are exceptional. She is a true joy to work with and know.”

She’s been known to have an excellent sense of humor and calming presence. People can expect to hear a positive voice when she attends a meeting. Her personal interests include reading, exercising, and sewing.

Congratulations Nancy!
