07:50 AM - May 07, 2021

Aja Brunet with award

Aja Brunet, Co-Vice President of the El Dorado High School (EDHS) Key Club, was honored with the Placerville Kiwanis Student Service Leader of the Month award for April. Aja is a sophomore and has served in the key club for two years. During the Zoom presentation, she excitedly received the award with her dad by her side and expressed, “I just want to say thank you. I love Kiwanis and the opportunities that you make possible for our Club and members like me.”

Dina Gentry, Placerville Kiwanis President and award committee member, explained, “Aja is a shining example of what is possible when our young, servant leaders are empowered by good people. Good people such as Sophie Cabrera, the EDHS Key Club Adviser and Kiwanis leader. Congratulations Aja – you will achieve great things!”

During the presentation, Sophie explained, “Aja submits monthly written and photo reports documenting the club’s activities and represents the El Dorado Key Club at Division Council meetings. Her reports highlight and support her fellow club member’s efforts and have directly contributed to the EDHS Key Club’s recognition as Division Club of Month 3 times in past school year. Aja provides assistance and support to other club officers and members and willingly assumes additional responsibilities and is the “back up” for other officers and committee chairs. Aja brings a positive attitude to the club, forwards ideas and is the first to volunteer for activities.”

Sophie continued, “Aja has an active and outgoing presence in the Key Club and a desire to serve her community. Aja has participated in all Key Club service events including volunteering at the Markham Food Pantry, writing cards to thank health care workers, a firewood fundraiser benefiting an adopted family at Christmas and chairing the Leprechaun card fundraiser to benefit a nutritious snacks for health care worker’s project. Aja has participated in every meeting, even calling in to meetings when she was on vacations with her family. Aja is a member of the 4yr Natural Resources Program at EDHS, a member of the Ski Team and takes college level computer coding classes. She has been elected to serve as co-Vice President next year.”
