FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DATE: September 10, 2019

Attention high school students who are interested in making a difference in our community:

The El Dorado County Youth Commission is now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year.  In a continued effort to positively enhance our community and empower our local youth, the County Board of Supervisors (BOS) partners with the County Office of Education (EDCOE) to appoint students as Youth Commissioners. Commissioners gather and express the opinions, ideas, and visions of our county’s youth, while gaining valuable leadership skills and knowledge about our county and local government.

To apply, students must be enrolled in grades 9-12, reside in El Dorado County, and be least 13 years old. Applications are available at most high school counseling offices, as well as online at: charter.edcoe.org/resources/edc-youth-commission, and edcgov.us/Government/BOS. Completed applications must be submitted via email by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, September 11, 2019.

Students who have taken advantage of this opportunity in the past report that the skills they learned as Youth Commissioners help them in ways they didn’t expect. From interviewing for jobs, applying for scholarships, and feeling confident in challenging college classes, students praise the impact Youth Commission has made in their lives.

For more information please contact the El Dorado County Youth Commission Advisor, Amy Pooley, at apooley@edcoe.org.
