Recently, the Kiwanis Club of Placerville awarded El Dorado High School (EDHS) sophomore and Key Club Treasurer, Aubrey Bonham, with the Student Service Leader of the Month Award for April. After receiving the award, she stated. “It is an honor to be part of Key Club, and it is nice to be recognized for my involvement.”

Aubrey has been part of the club for two years and as treasurer is responsible for monitoring the club’s finances, tracking fundraising and ensuring that funds are spent on club approved projects. When she joined the club, she immediately became one of its most active and passionate members.  Aubrey has recruited eight new members since joining and has become a mentor and example for other members.

Key Club Advisor Sophie Cabrera explained, “Aubrey is the chair of the Duffy Park Community Garden project and was instrumental in its conception and development. She presented the idea before the City Parks Division and the Placerville City Council, gaining approval for the project. Despite the challenges of the past year, she remains committed to ensuring the project’s completion.”

Brian Veerkamp, “Placerville Kiwanis President, expressed, “Congratulations Aubrey! As a former student of EDHS, I am proud that you are leading by example and empowering others along the way.”

Sophie continued, “Aubrey’s enthusiasm for the fellowship the key club offers is evident through her efforts to coordinate and plan events. Aubrey coordinated the fall rally and when the opportunity to attend the Key Club District Convention arose, Aubrey figured out the costs and proposed a budget that included individual member donations, club fund donations and a request for Kiwanis funds. Thanks to Aubrey’s efforts, five club members attended the District Convention. At the convention, Aubrey was a delegate representing EDHS and part of the delegation that elected the new District Governor and Board.”

In addition to her key club responsibilities, Aubrey is an avid thespian and active in theater. She performs in Studio 81 at EDHS and in Imagination Theatre productions. Sophie concluded, “Aubrey’s passion, positive attitude and bright and enthusiastic spirit embody key club values, and she represents the best of our youth.”
