EDCOE Child Development & Food Services Team wins Excellence in Education Award

Based on their dedication and willingness to provide high-quality services, County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ed Manansala, honored the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) Child Development & Food Services (CDP) team with the Excellence in Education Award for the 2019-20 school year. The award recognizes hard work that contributes to providing quality support to students, schools, families, and the community. CDP provides services for children ages 0-5 including preschool, infants and toddler, and pregnant women. The program serves over 500 of the most vulnerable children in the county.

County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ed Manansala, presented the award via YouTube Live Event and expressed, “This team is cohesive, strong, and always willing to go above and beyond for our families. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!”

CDP provides both center and home-based educational programs at sites all over El Dorado County. Programs include Early Head Start (0-3), Head Start (3-5), and State Preschool (3-5). These programs include family support services for health, nutrition, mental health, and developmental delays while providing referrals and connections for families to receive additional services if needed. Financial assistance is available for qualified families, and programs are currently accepting applications. Families can apply in person, over the phone or online. The Food Services team utilizes a centralized kitchen to provide daily meals to the 500 children in the programs as well as meals for students in the EDCOE Charter Alternative Programs. Food Services also provides catering in addition to the traditional services provided to children. The food is not only prepared in the centralized kitchen but also delivered out the various sites every day. “The Food Services team is such a remarkable team. I don’t think a lot of people understand all of the work that is generated out of such a small kitchen,” expressed EDCOE Child Development program Director Jenny Pettit. “Everybody in our program has the attitude that we can provide services and we are going to find a way to provide services for children and families. We have such a great team!”
