Team Member Spotlight, Sean Fitzgerald, Graphic Arts, Printing & Production Specialist

Interview with Sean Fitzgerald

Briefly describe your background (where you grew up, family, why you came to work for EDCOE).

I grew up in San Bruno, CA. It is the city where the SFO Airport is located. I went to High School at Capuchino and graduated from college from Cal Poly SLO. I met my wife through mutual friends in 1989, and we were married in 1995. I worked in the Bay Area before moving to El Dorado County in 2000. I did have to commute to a job in Sacramento for a couple of years until I decided to take a job offer at EDCOE in 2002.

What is your department, title, and how long have you worked for EDCOE?

I am currently under the Business Department. My title is Graphic Arts, Printing & Production Specialist, and I am on my 18th year at EDCOE.

Describe how your role helps support programs/schools/students directly or indirectly.

I indirectly support all of our programs, schools, and students by producing all the printed materials that are used in supporting and teaching all of our staff and students. This unsolicited support goes beyond the walls of EDCOE to all of our districts and non-profit agencies throughout El Dorado County.

What do you most appreciate about your department/team?

The EDCOE team is great! I must say that I enjoy working here more than any other job I have had. The comradery is fantastic, and I have made many lifelong friends here. I will never forget when my wife and I adopted our son Ryan, EDCOE organized a baby shower (along with a money tree!!) that was super special for us and will never be forgotten. That showed me that EDCOE is more like a family than just a place to work.

What is your proudest moment at EDCOE? Why?

My proudest moment at EDCOE is probably when I received the “Golden Apple” award from Vicki Barber in 2007. They had me sit at a table next to Senator Ted Gaines ….. which made sense when they announced me as the recipient. It was a great moment, very appreciated, and very unexpected.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

My favorite things to do are to hang out with family and my dog Hendrix, play guitar, gig with the bands I play in, woodworking/luthier and fly fish rivers and lakes as much as possible.

What is something many people may not know about you?

I believe very few people know that before I moved to El Dorado County I was the Vice President of a commercial printing firm in the Bay Area and managed upward of 45 employees for 12 years.

If you could meet anyone in the world, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

I would love to meet Eric Clapton. Besides him being a guitar-great he is also an avid fly fisherman. These are my two greatest passions, and I think we would become friends. I truly respect his journey and how he became the person he is today. He has also unselfishly “given back” more than most realize.
