Extended team honoured

During the El Dorado County Office of Education’s (EDCOE) annual Team Member Recognition event, the entire Extended Day Team was recognized for their tireless efforts this past year. Lori Scalaro, Program Manager for the EDCOE Charter Extended Day Program, accepted the award on behalf of the team and expressed, “I have the privilege to have worked for this program for 19 years, and I am honored to work alongside all of our team members. It is humbling to accept this acknowledgement on the team’s behalf. We are the dream team. You made Mission Impossible – possible!”

Dr. Ed Manansala, El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools, presented the award and stated, “The Extended Day team continues to deliver excellence for their programs and students. Their services are invaluable to our schools and families, and I thank them for their dedication.”

The Extended Day program provides enriched child care services on 23 school campuses throughout the county. These services include before and after school sessions and throughout the day during summer. The programs offer homework quiet time, enrichment activities which include a focus on STEAM and STEM and outdoor recess to promote healthy choices. Team members include high school and college students who serve as mentors to Extended Day participants and encourage teamwork.

In regards to the team opening programs during the pandemic shutdowns last year, Lori noted, “What seemed like an insurmountable obstacle was made possible because our team members refused to give up for our schools and students. It is amazing to see our team in action. We successfully opened sites on June 15, 2020 and produced a fantastic summer program. When school districts resumed in-person classes beginning in August, we tailored each program to their partnering district at the 23 sites. Four additional locations facilitated temporary daycare for staff who work at the El Dorado Union High School District.”

Dr. Ron Carruth, Superintendent of the El Dorado Union High School District, stated, “We were thrilled to partner with the Extended Day Team to provide support for our staff so that we could open our schools. Together we solved unprecedented challenges, and the Extended Day team helped us take care of our employees so we could take care of our students. Together we found a way to support our community and are grateful for the partnership.”
