PUSD Superintendent Annette Lane Wins Statewide Award

08:15 AM - April 21, 2020

Superintendent/Principal of Pioneer Union School District (PUSD), Annette Lane, was recently honored with the Association of California School Administrator’s (ACSA) 2020 Superintendent/Principal of the Year award. ACSA is the largest umbrella organization for school leaders in the United States, serving more than 17,000 California educators. “It is an honor to receive this award because it really speaks to how our Pioneer schools and community work hand-in-hand to enhance learning experiences for our students,” she expressed. “I’m proud of the hard work that is invested to produce well-rounded programs including our Garden Club that teaches students sustainable agriculture and healthy choices for cooking and eating, a partnership with Health and Human Services that allows students to take classes on lifeskills, our Parent Teacher Organization’s campaign to raise funds for our book vending machine that was based on the book “There is only one you” that taught students to value each individual’s uniqueness while appreciating diversity, and so much more.”

Superintendent Lane began serving in her role as Superintendent in 2016 and as Superintendent/Principal since 2018. Under her leadership, PUSD is recognized for their full-inclusion program at all three school campuses, “The teachers truly embraced the idea of fully integrating our students with special needs into every classroom and shifting the mindset about how to address the needs of all students.”

Lane is recognized for her caring and dedicated approach to come alongside teachers, administrators, and students – providing guidance and encouragement along the way. She takes thoughtful care in assessing the needs of the district and developing a plan for professional growth. Lane engages with students in tangible ways, such as orchestrating the Oral Interpretation Festival for the entire county. Lane worked with stakeholders to secure a State Preschool grant to establish a Community Preschool, which is now an important and valuable community asset. In addition, she worked with community leaders to host the Annual South County Health and Safety Fair.

Colleen Rothballer, PUSD Administrative Assistant/HR/IT, noted, “Annette’s passion for student learning, coupled with her desire for our teachers to deliver quality curriculum with measured results, is one of many assets she has brought to the Pioneer Union School District.”

As a strong collaborator who unites diverse teams, she and PUSD play a key role in El Dorado Professional Improvement Community (EPIC). EPIC provides opportunities for districts to network and develop resources to foster continuous improvement across the county. “Superintendent Lane serves as the heart of her small district. Her commitment and perseverance to provide the very best to her students, teachers, and educational leaders is evident in her practice every day,” County Superintendent, Dr. Ed Manansala, expressed. “She exemplifies the ability to keep student achievement at the focus of all her leadership decisions. Congratulations, Superintendent Lane!”
