The El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) is pleased to announce that three schools have been named California Distinguished Schools: Miller’s Hill School of the Latrobe School District, Rolling Hills Middle School of the Buckeye Union School District and Marina Village Middle School of the Rescue Union School District. Dr. Ed Manansala, El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools, remarked, “With more than 10,000 schools across California, and only 100+ honored, it is truly a remarkable and welcomed celebration in 2020-2021! Congratulations!”

Natalie Miller, Superintendent of Latrobe School District expressed, “I am so thrilled for our community. Receiving the Distinguished School Award is a high honor and certainly validates the hard work of our teachers, staff, and students. In our small district excellence begins early. Miller's Hill may receive the award, but our high expectations for student success begins at Latrobe Elementary and carries right through eighth grade. This award at this time of year, given the circumstances we are currently working through has definitely put a "pep in our step". We are very excited and grateful!”

The California Department of Education (CDE) identifies and awards eligible schools based on performance and progress on state indicators specified on the California School Dashboard, the state’s accountability and continuous improvement system. Indicators include test scores, suspension rates, and conditions and climate.

“These schools are great examples of California’s commitment to provide outstanding public education for all students, and their data-driven efforts have helped ensure that their students leave with the tools and skills they need to be successful after graduation,” Thurmond said. “Our thanks go to the entire communities surrounding these schools, including the teachers, administrators, and classified employees as well as the students and their families who, through teamwork, all accomplished this impressive achievement together.”
