Golden Star Students

Over 15 years ago, the El Dorado County Office of Education initiated the Golden Star Student awards program for El Dorado County public school students, partnering with the El Dorado County Fair to recognize students at the Fair.

Students in grades preschool through 12th grade who have excelled or shown significant improvement in areas such as citizenship, attendance, leadership, academics, athletics, or community service are selected for an award. School administrators at each site select the criteria to be used and may recognize up to 20% of their student enrollment. Many students work hard towards being selected for an award year after year.

In 2016, over 5,200 students received award certificates and entry passes to the El Dorado County Fair. Free entry to the Fair provides these students the opportunity to attend the Fair on a day of their choice and visit the Education Booth where they are given a mementos. School district administrators and volunteers from the El Dorado County Office of Education welcome students and parents, congratulating them and providing them an opportunity to speak one-on-one with advocates of learning.

Prizes are donated by or funded through contributions from individuals, local businesses and service organizations.
