EDCOE Team Member Spotlight, Angela Chance (pictured), Help Desk Technician, Information Technology

Briefly describe your background (where you grew up, family, why you came to work for EDCOE).

I was born and raised in a small southern town. I am the youngest of 6 kids. My sister, Cindy, is one of my best friends, and she lives here in El Dorado County too. My parents divorced when I was 6 years old, so I was primarily raised by my amazing Mama. I moved to Los Angeles the summer before my 21st birthday and lived a very fun 13 years there. I moved to El Dorado County in October 2005. I had just spent 3 years working as an Administrative Assistant at UCLA, so getting a job again in education seemed like a good fit. I’ve been able to develop a really beautiful life here in El Dorado County including getting married 2 years ago to my amazing wife Sandy.

What is your department, title, and how long have you worked for EDCOE?

I am a Help Desk Technician in the Information Technology (IT) department. My desk is in Building A at the Green Valley campus. I have worked for EDCOE since January of 2005 (I think).

Describe how your role helps support programs/schools/students directly or indirectly.

A couple of my primary tasks are answering Help Desk phone calls and troubleshooting/dispatching tickets that come into our ticketing system. I also provide direct technical support in-person on campus or via online remote sessions with users on campus or at other sites throughout El Dorado County. In addition to typical IT support, I also print/seal the various accounts payable and payroll checks that EDCOE Business processes for EDCOE and districts.

What are you and your team doing to support education during COVID-19?

We really were able to continue our IT support for users because of our ability to do remote sessions with people whether they were at home, at the office or anywhere else with an internet connection. We spend a lot of time updating software on devices so they continue running effectively to allow users to continue their work.

IT deployed a lot of Chromebooks to students this past year. (I wasn’t directly involved with that, but I was able to take on some other tickets to open up time for the technicians handling the Chromebooks to focus on that priority.)

What do you most appreciate about your department/team?

I most appreciate the variety of people and skills. We aren’t all the same and I’m glad because that would be boring. We each have our own experiences and personalities we can bring to customer service/troubleshooting/team projects.

What is your proudest moment at EDCOE? Why?

My proudest moment was when other employees donated sick leave to me when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2017. So many people were generous with their time (and follow up emails/calls/texts). I felt like everyone was rooting for me and that’s a special feeling.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I really enjoy going camping and doing driving adventures. I love listening to music and singing along. Pre-pandemic we enjoyed lots of game nights at our house and someday we’ll get back to those.

What is something many people may not know about you?

I was born at home. My mother delivered me herself.

If you could meet anyone in the world, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It would be very interesting to ask her in person about her life and her passion for her career and justice. Reading about a person is nice but to meet them in person you’d be able to feel their energy and maybe steal some of it 😊

From supervisor, David Seabury, Director, Information Technology:

Angela continues to be such a crucial part of our team by providing exceptional helpdesk support to all EDCOE staff. Her positivity and dedication make her such an enjoyable person to work with. Angela has been described as someone who is “always knowledgeable, professional, and friendly.” In my opinion, one of her greatest qualities is that she cares for others and makes sure that our team is providing the best IT support possible.
