EDCOE Team Member Spotlight - Kim Kozlowski, Senior Program Secretary, Extended Day

00:00 AM - September 15, 2020

Interview with Kim:

Briefly describe your background (where you grew up, family, why you came to work for EDCOE).

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, with my twin sisters and my brother. I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Industrial, Organizational and Clinical Psychology and a minor in Russian Literature.

What is your department, title, and how long have you worked for EDCOE?

I have worked with Charter Extended Day for almost 6 years. My aunt, in Child Development at the time, told me about the Secretary opening in Extended Day and said I should apply. I am now the Senior Secretary and am also covering the Accounting Specialists desk until a replacement can be found.

Describe how your role helps support programs/schools/students directly or indirectly.

I am lucky enough to work in an office that directly helps working families by providing before and after school daycare on 23 school campuses.

What do you most appreciate about your department/team?

Our office has been working extremely hard this past month during COVID-19 to get our sites open for the EDCOE staff, District staff, and other essential workers so they can continue to work while their students start school either in the classroom or distance learning. I am constantly impressed by my co-workers and their tireless dedication to serving EDCOE and the families who count on Extended Day for unparalleled care so they can confidently go to work and know that their children are well cared for.

What is your proudest moment at EDCOE? Why?

I am most proud of the fact that our office team was able to successfully open 23 sites in less than a month with everything needed to service children, including providing a place for students to do their distance learning.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Most of my spare time is spent with new house plans and interior design for the house we are building on Folsom Lake. I also hike with a group of friends on the weekends. My family are huge Arsenal FC fans and are anxiously awaiting the start of the new Premiere League games.

What is something many people may not know about you?

There are only a few people that know I am a curler. I curled for the Detroit Curling Club, but since moving to California in 2006, there has been little opportunity, so I have to be happy with watching it on TV.

If you could meet anyone in the world, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

I would love to have known Alexander Pushkin, Russia’s greatest poet. I would want to thank him for writing such beautiful poetry and inspiring my love of Russian poetry and literature.

From supervisor Lori Scalaro:

Kim is such an integral component of the Extended Day team. Her job duties affect almost every aspect of our program, and her efficiency in performing those functions is key to our overall success. We have overcome some overwhelming obstacles to offer services to our community during this difficult time, and I can honestly say we would not have been able to meet that challenge without her unwavering support and professionalism. I love working with Kim, not only because she is excellent at her job, but more importantly, because she has a great sense of humor. Fun fact… Kim has an unusual affinity towards people dressed up as food! Kim is full of surprises, and a pleasure to work with.
