EDCOE's Gigi Marchini Wins Statewide Award
00:00 AM - October 20, 2020
In recognition of her significant contributions toward county offices of education statewide, Gigi Marchini, El Dorado County Office of Education’s (EDCOE) Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability, was honored with the California County Superintendent’s Educational Services’ (CCSESA) 2020 Student Programs and Services Steering Committee (SPSSC) Star award. After receiving the award, she expressed, “I am so honored receive this award. This group has been instrumental in terms of my learning how to best serve our most at-risk students in El Dorado County. Whether it be providing input on legislation, feedback on state accountability measures for alternative schools, or creating documents that support programs in the field. SPSSC has provided me with a team of peers across the state who are well-informed and have the same interests so that we can offer the best possible programs for our kids here in El Dorado. I feel so fortunate to be part of the group and to have been selected for this award on behalf of them is humbling.”
As she supports this state-level work, Gigi is also able to harness best-practices and professional networks to bring vital resources back to El Dorado County’s schools and county-wide programs. “Gigi serves at the statewide level to help our schools and programs build capacity and enhance educational experiences,” explained County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ed Manansala. “Our teachers and students benefit directly from her passionate efforts. I commend Gigi for her commitment and resolve.”
CCSESA’s Student Programs and Services Steering Committee (SPSSC) facilitates communication and common understanding across all student services provided by county offices of education to school districts and communities including special education, Regional Occupational Programs/Centers, alternative education programs, migrant education, outdoor science education, and HeadStart/preschool. The committee promotes the development of quality programs and services through assessment, research and dissemination of best practices.
Jill Morton, EDCOE’s Director of Professional Development, noted, “I have had the honor to work with Gigi for the past twenty years. Gigi brings a level of professionalism and dedication to all that she does. She works tirelessly to support the efforts of County school leaders to ensure that the needs of all students are met.”
Gigi has worked for the El Dorado County school system for decades and remains very involved in our local community, serving in many capacities, as an Ag in the Classroom Board Member, New Morning Youth and Family Services Board Member/Vice Chair, and Marshall Medical Center Board of Directors Past Chair.
