As the Executive Advisory Council continues with ongoing needs assessment and program development, the following programs and services have been implemented to address identified gaps:
FYSCP provides ongoing free training opportunities related to Trauma Informed School Practices/social and emotional learning (SEL) for all local school districts staff and affiliated agencies.
FYSCP collaborates with Golden Sierra Job Training Agency, the El Dorado Center of Folsom Lake College, and Department of Rehabilitation on the foster youth Summer Employment Program that incorporates both soft skills training and a supported work experience internship in a local business. Foster youth are employed for six weeks during the summer and, in addition to wages, they leave the program with a professional resume, letter of recommendation, and many skills to obtain and keep employment.
FYSCP collaborates with the El Dorado Union High School District (EDUHSD) on Transition to College and Career ‘clubs’ on their high school campuses. Career Counselors from the district and Youth Specialists from PreventionWORKS and Summitview lead these groups in a series of modules to assist foster youth in future planning.
FYSCP provides additional support for the two Independent Living Programs (ILP) in the county, Foster Youth Launch of New Morning and Unity Care.
Post COVID:
All Youth Specialists from our programs have been and are increasing outreach to foster youth in person and/or online to provide support and guidance during this difficult time. Contact is being documented and tracked to ensure all foster youth are in contact with at least one Youth Specialist.
